Question about 1998 Pontiac Bonneville windshield wipers?

My boyfriend‘s 1998 pontiac bonneville‘s windshield wipers randomly stopped working on his way to work the other day. he said they were working fine and out of nowhere just stopped. they didnt even settle back in place like they usually do. they are just stuck in the position they were when they stopped. my dad pulled the fuse and said the fuse looked ok. what could it be and what‘s the price of repair? hoping it‘s not the wiper moter!

Answer:

One of the two parts that you can check which would cause this problem: The wiper switch itself or the circuit board on the wiper motor. It's common for the solder on the circuit board where the wire harness clips on the wiper motor to crack and needs to be re-soldered. You can buy the replacement wiper motor at Auto Zone ($40-$45) or you can re solder it your self to save you the $15.00 for the board. If you give it a light tap on the motor and the wipers stop, then it's the circuit board. If it keeps working, then it's the wiper switch on the steering column and you can get that at Auto Zone also and they will have the step by step instructions for you to get the job done with common tools. Good luck and have fun repairing you vehicle
Better hope someone knows how to diagnose the wiper circuit so someone doesn't buy a new wiper motor and find out the switch was bad!!
