Question regarding Tires?

Question, one of my tires was destroyed (huge hole from hitting a rock or something, can't be repaired). My question is, I can't find the same brand tire as the one I had, so I have to go with a different brand than the other 4 tires on my car. Does this matter at all? 1 tire will be a different brand than the other tires but the tire will obviously fit the car (according the the size, width, etc. on the other tires). So does brand make that much of a difference if it's only the one tire? It's my front right tire. It's a 4 door Sedan.

Answer:

The "other 4 tires"? You have 5 tires on your car? If you are including the spare, and it is a full size spare, the same as a regular tire, not a compact/temporary one, then use it permanently and make the new tire the spare. Having tires of different brands makes a very slight difference in handling. The average person cannot tell the difference. If you only put air in the tires when it is needed, then you would not notice the difference. Tires lose air at unequal rates, and the slight difference in air pressure are more important than the brand. For the tires to be truly identical, you have to keep adjusting the air pressure to match exactly. If you do not bother doing that, then the brand really does not matter. The resale value of a car with tires of different brands is less than for a car with four identical tires. However, you can wait to address this when you are ready to sell the car.
No not really. As long as they are equally rated you will be fine.
No . . brand is of no importance . . however, wear rating could make some difference. You might try going with the same manufacturer though
If you have an all-wheel drive car, all four tires really should match. Apart from that, if you're a conservative driver (i.e., no aggressive cornering, etc.) the mismatch shouldn't be too much of a problem. Try to keep the mismatched pair on the rear to minimize any effect on steering.
If the tire is around the same age, with identical size and similar ratings (speed, load, temperature, traction, treadwear) and from a known manufacturer, you can use it. You should get two such tires so you can mount two identical tires on each axle. Or can you just use the new tire as a spare one?
