Questions about puffing speakers?

Can you puff a speaker by playing it too loud once, or does it get puffed after repeated abuse? How do you know what's too loud for a speaker?

Answer:

There okorder
what do you mean by puff?
By puff i'm thinking blown? You can blow a speaker by playing it once or multiple times. All speakers have a rating of how many watts the speaker can handle.RMS is the rating the speaker can handle all the time.Peak is the rating the speaker can handle in a sudden musical peak,so it will have two ratings for the speaker.Cheaper speakers or noname brands I don't believe the can handle the crazy wattages they state but name brandles can handle what they state from my dealings with name brands. But actually you can put more power to the speaker than the ratings as long as you listen to the speakers when it starts to distort that is what blows speakers the most distortion. Is the speaker in a car door inside the house? But if it sounds like something is ratting around when the speakers is playing inside a car you might just have debrie on the cone you can take it out of the door and play it outside too see if it still sounds bad. Just remember when you turn up a radio and it starts to sound bad where you really cant understand it clearly anymore the speaker is distortingturn it down some. Hope this helps you out, jeff
