Question:

real potty or a potty chair?

in your opinion, is it better to use a little potty chair, or a seat that will fit the big toilet for poty training? i was thinking that if i use a potty seat, then i will use have to re-train my son to the REAL potty after he gets a hang of the little one. what is your experiance?

Answer:

I have a little potty and a seat that goes in the big potty.. my oldest used the little one for a bit then changed to the big on her own without retraining. My middle one never had any interest in the little potty, only the big, and my youngest pees in the little potty ometimes and the big one sometimes. It will be up to your child. I think if you just use the big potty that will be fine, your child wont have a delay in learning. If you keep a little potty around, You will not need to retrain from the little potty to the big, so just have both available if you want and let your child pick. Or have only the seat for the big potty so you dont have to mess with the small potty at all. Its your choice.
I bought a stool for my daughter to climb up and sit on the big potty herself and i used the ring you put on the toilet. I think she felt more like a big girl that way and it made her want to go on the potty.
I like using the seat that goes on the real potty, so your kid is used to the big potty and you don't have to clean out the little potty all the time.
Which ever works best for you. I personally would start with the little potty then once they are comfortable and good at using it I would switch to the big toilet. It isn't hard to get them to switch over in my experience.
It's best to use the toilet that is built in the bathroom period. preschools, day cares and elementary schools don't come equipped with potty seats or potty chairs and it has been found that children who are potty trained at home will wet themselves because they are afraid to use a regular toilet. All three of my kids were trained on a regular toilet. Yes it meant having to hold them on when they were little but that's what parents are for...support.
