Question:

reclining booster feeding chairs?

Have you used one of those reclining booster feeding chairs rather then a regular high chair? Any recommendations? Do you wish you would have bought a regular high chair instead? Is it okay for my 4 month old?

Answer:

We have a recling one that straps onto a normal kitchen chair. My 2 month old sits in it all the time but not to eat. I put it in the kitchen when I'm doing dishes or cooking. He LOVES sitting there and it's great because he can still see me and I talk or sing to him while I get stuff done. Plus it gives him something to do other than sit in his swings or bouncy seat. I don't recommend putting a baby that young in there to eat though. Babies that little shouldn't be eating solids. But I really do love the seat to just let him sit in. I'd most definitely suggest it to anyone. The one we have was only 30$ I believe at Target. So it was much cheaper than most highchairs and again, it's nice for him to sit in for a change of scenery. It also takes up waaaay less space because it's on a chair not free standing. Good luck and I hope I helped!
I did use a booster rather than a regular high chair. We have a small house, and the booster seat took up a lot less space. It did not, however, recline. If your baby can't sit up straight in a chair, he's not ready for solids yet. The ability to sit well with support is one of the most important 'readiness' signs for starting solids. EDIT: Heather -- up to date doctors do not recommend starting solids at 4 months. Up to date doctors recommend starting no earlier than 6 months, UNLESS baby is clearly ready and in need of something more earlier .. and that 'readiness' includes the ability to sit up well.
I do not agree with reclining feed chairs whether they be high chairs or booster seats because babies should be able to sit up right before starting solids any way. When my son was young we had a high chair for him and now that he wants to be more included in our meals and he eats at restaurants and family members houses we did buy him a booster seat. It is very easy to clean, wipe down after every meal and put it in the dish washer every night. The storage is great too when we have company and he is playing We have a First Years booster seat and I love it
We have a very small house (900 square foot mobile) all we use is the strap on the chair booster seat type high chairs, they take up so much less space, I have two different ones with trays and other one without trays and they all work great. The ones with the trays have seat beats in them so they would be fine for a baby who is sitting up well enough to be starting solids. If baby can't sit up in a regular non reclining seat then he/she is not ready for food yet. if you are looking for a way to include your younger baby in meal times but they are too little to sit in the high chair and start solids then what we did was just put the bumbo chair in the middle of the table. I know the instructions say not to put them on any raised surface, but she was only in it when there was at least 2 adults sitting right in front of her, there is no way she could have fallen.
My sister-in-law had one that reclined a bit and then it would sit upright as well. She loved it and still uses it to this day. Her son is 2 now. I think it would be great for a four month old because regardless what people think they do not sit exactly straight up at four months old and that is when doctors recommend trying to start baby foods. I do prefer a booster chair to the highchair because I got my daughter a high chair and she always prefers to sit in a booster. She likes to be at the table with everyone else. When she was that young though I used a bumbo. It is the suishy seat for babies that can't sit up very well on their own. It worked good too. It is a personal choice but I definitely am a advocate for the booster seat.
