Question:

reptile carpet or tile?

im debating on putting carpet or tile into my bearded dragons tank instead of brown paper bags. is it hard cleaning poop off the carpet? because with tile you can just wipe it up. what one would be better?

Answer:

I use non-adhesive shelf liner. It comes in rolls you can buy just about anywhere. lots of colors and patterns, cuts to size, looks great, super easy to wipe clean, cheap. I use it in my lizard habitats. If I had to choose I'd pick tile over carpet for easy to clean.
I prefer tiles. While the carpet may look nice and is not ingestible, the fabric can snag on claws and teeth. It is absorbent too, so even picking poop up right away will leave the bacteria behind inside the carpet - there is no wiping down, you have to wash the whole thing. As well as being much easier to clean, tiles also hold and spread heat better :)
Don't let my wife know I told you this. For many years I used Commercial carpet in my snake cages. I had several pieces cut to fit. WHen one got soiled I would just remove it and put in another one. When I got a stack of dirty ones I would wait until she wasn't home and throw them in the washer/dryer. They clean up like new and last for years. Been married 37 years and she has no clue!
I am not a fan of rep.carpet, it a joke to me. tile works okay, but clean up can get messy if you don't clean it quickly, you still have some contamination issues with tile, especially if you are not spot cleaning really actively.
