Question:

Ripped silk chiffon, help?

I have a silk chiffon skirt and somehow it has rips along the seam of the waistband now :( I never worn it, so probably something in my closet caused it to snagIt is fraying and I don't know what to doIs there anyway to fix it and reinforce it? There are around 4 holes alreadyIt's ok if the repairs show because its right along the waistline and won't show when I wear it, I just want to be able to wear it and stop the holes from getting biggeris there fabric glue I can use or something?

Answer:

Fray Chek might workYou can also take a strip of hem tape or light ribbon in a matching colour and sew it over the holes so the skirt is attached to the waistband with the hem tape alsoThis will be a little decorative and make it strongerDepending upon how thin the fabric is and how old, and whether the seam was made properly (sometimes these are not sewn properly and pull apart) it could be that it's not a snag, it's the fabric falling apart or the seam does not have enough of an allowanceUsing the added tape will help stabilize itFray Chek just stops fraying but doesn't prevent new problems.
