Question:

Safest Motorcycles to Start With?

I‘ll be 16 in a few months and getting my permit. I‘ll have all summer to get all my needed hours in to get my license, but I really want a motorcycle. I know there‘s other tests and things that I will have to take, and I‘m ready to do that. I really want a Kawasaki Ninja, but my dad said that I can‘t start off with that even if I could pay for it and everything. So, I‘m trying to find a safer motorcycle to start off with. So, I‘ll be 16 and I‘m only about 5 foot. I‘ve never ridden dirt bikes or motorcycles or anything like that before. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

Answer:

Speaking as a dad, I wouldn't recommend even getting on a motorcycle until you've driven a car for a while. That way you can see how stupid many drivers are. Drivers don't pay attention to bikers, especially quiet bikes like street bikes. If you've never ridden any kind of bike, a street bike will freak you out. They're extremely powerful and extremely fast. If you really want to ride, try a smaller cc cruiser like a Honda 750. Learning on a street bike seems kinda like suicide. Motorcycles are extremely dangerous in that everyone around braking and changing lanes without any regard to other drivers much less bikers. You'll have to learn on 250cc cruiser with the rider courses, but don't buy one that small. Stick with at least a 750. They're heavier and safer, and have the ability to get you out of trouble should you get into it.
