Question:

safety goggles for chemistry class?

ok we need to buy goggles that are splash proof and and vents on the sides , i want to buy some cool purple ones anyone know where i can find some

Answer:

if you already took a class you will remember that you will need a furnace, a crucible, lifters, pouring shanks, if you also buy a welder (preferably tig so you can do bronze) you can make your own skimmers, if not you have to buy them. I don't know how much a furnace is, but I would be surprised if the stuff is much less than $10 000. Unless you build your own, but depending on your experience there can be real safety issues with that. Though if you want to do jewelry size (probably around a quarter pound or so you can get by with a large propane torch - not the small plumbers one. Though there are also nice induction pots which can melt up to 3 pounds of bronze (about $1000 ). You also need a burnout kiln of the necessary size of your investments. You'll need all the safety equipment (gloves, welding leathers, face protection), modeling wax, spruing wax, a small propane torch is really useful, but if you have patience you can use just a candle, helps with wax working. Depending on the size you are working you need grinding tools, ranging from dremel tools to angle grinders. Welding equipment may be necessary. If you do larger things a die grinder (sorry, you need a compressor too or a good flexshaft grinder) is more powerful than a dremel tool. I suggest you take another class if you want to cast metal. It's cheaper than buying all equipment and given that you don't really remember what to do it will be much safer as well. If you still want to set up your own foundry, pay attention in class and bug the teacher with questions and make sure you actually participate in all aspects of a pour and you can do it without help from the teacher. Then you are ready to try on your ownthough for anything larger you will need at least one better two reliable people who know what they do as well.
If your serious I design traffic calming devices. Speed bumps are not traffic calming devices where speed humps, speed tables and speed cushions do have a valid place. I've written many paper on traffic calming so I could go on for quite some time but, lets get to the bottom line. Roads are designed to accommodate a specific design speed (85th percentile speed). Speed limits are set on residential streets well below this speed. Politicians, old people and young couple with kids complain when people drive faster than the posted speed. You can get everyone in your neighborhood to drive at or below the speed limit this will create a platooning effect as each household typically generates 8 to 10 trips per day (per ITE trip generation manual). 2- design roads for slower speeds like they used too 3- retrofit existing roadways with traffic calming devices that change you vehicle path vertically (speed humps) or horizontally (traffic circles, chicanes, and the like)
