Question:

Set off smoke detector in state of california from cooking?

I set off a smoke detector from cooking. Will i get fined since fire dept. came?. Live in a condo in californa

Answer:

had that happen to me. had to put new ones in. electric ones are good for about 10 years, battery operated for about 5. they are cheap protection. get new ones.
mine did the same thing for about one week. They aren't in-wired just battery. They haven't done it again since but its still a mystery
Batteries anytime it chirps it is the battery. If it has a light it will require 2. Just because they are hard wired doesn't mean they don't need battery upkeep. They both went out at the same time good, because they all should be replaced simultaneously. As a reminder I replace mine every day light savings. If you have a home security system change it as well as C0 2 detectors. Good Luck.
10 feet is the closest. There usually is some paint on the curb marking the area you are not supposed to park/ block with a vehicle.
I had this happen on mine. There are actually 2 alarms one of course is the low battery, the other alarm works on time. Inside the detector is a small can of radioactive material called Amicuim 241, which is an alpha emitter this ionizes the air. It has a half life of about 10 years. When this second alarm goes off changing the battery will not reset it. All you can do is throw it out. I replaced them with 2 combination smoke/CO detectors, their smaller than the old ones and AA's instead of 9volts. I put in lithium AA's which are good for 10 years
