Question:

SEWING HELP NEEDED! Making baby 'comforter' and don't know how to hand stitch my opening closed!?

Here's what I've done so far (and I realize maybe I've done things oddly but I am totally new to this!): I sewed my two pieces of fabric right sides together all the way around but about a 10quot; openingThen I turned it right side out, stuffed it with my batting, and hand tied it with yarn (the grandma way)Now I have my opening left, and I am not sure what to doDo I have to hand stitch the opening AND also machine sew all around the edges to try to catch the batting on all the edges, or just sew my opening shut? How do you hand stitch it shut?If you can help, thank you so much!

Answer:

It might not be the right size for the job.
the Quilt in a Day lady always puts her 2 pieces of fabric together, lays the batting on top of them, stitches all around catching her batting then turns the thing inside out so the outsides of the fabric are correct, then ties it You are doing fineIf it worked great, but is easier the other way Whip stitch the opening by hand with tiny stitches so they are barely seen You can, if you want, machine stitch around about an inch inside the edge to catch the batting so it doesn't shiftOr you can add a few more knots to secure thisEnjoy your new craft!
