Question:

Should I bench press as a swimmer?

I have heard that bench pressing is bad for swimmers because it can mess up their range of motion...Is this true?If not, should I consider it as a swimmer and could it help me improve?

Answer:

i'm not really sure . but if you want to build up muscle i recommend using a bike. it builds up muscle in your legs pretty fast...
I think you should consult a certified trainer, or an experienced athlete (swimmer) for an opinion.
truth be told i mean working the muscles out is good but bench pressing is a no 1 it will make you bulky and stock you up which makes it harder to swim fast and stay aflot[muscle is denser than fat] so yeah you'll have muscle to swim with fats but the fact that you can't stay afloat will slow you down. dry land = a swimmer's besty if no pool is available bench press= your frenemy it helps but it can also crush you to be honest stay away from it if you can.
Swimming Bench
This is true. Some very light bench pressing would be OK but too much can mess with your range of motion and being fluid in the water. if you want to be a better swimmer, then swim! But if you wish to make additional gains when you have maximized your swim time then one way is to add dryland work like flexibility exercises, plyometric work, swimming while wearing weights, and resistance training. What most people don't know is that the muscles used in swimming is almost all of them, from the top of your head through your toes so you need to do exercises that reach all the muscle groups not just one muscle group.
