Question:

Should Sport motorcycles be banned?

There was a bill put forth in Florida giving stiff penalties (and confiscation) of motorcycles going more than 30MPH over the speed limit. What is your opinion? Should these bikes be banned, or should they have special licensing, or what? You tell me!

Answer:

I would say no! That and if they pass that law in Florida it's going to make people open the throttle even more to get away from the cops because they've gotten caught. Hell, if my bike was going to be taken away anyway I would do the same thing. Have at least one hell of a last ride anyway. Just because one is going 30+ over the speedlimit doesn't mean they're being reckless. Cages do it all the time on the open road but you don't see the pigs autioning off their vehicles when they pull the people over for going 30+. Why should they do it to motorbikes? I think they need to give equal rights to all motorists on the road and make sure everyone can actually drive a cage instead of just handing them their license and the keys to their new murder mobile!
Wow, foolishness if I ever heard it before. The actual stats show, if you take the time to read them that new riders are the dangerous ones. A kid on a rocket and a 50 year old on a harley have nearly identical accident rates. What would you like to do, ban all new riders. I have been riding sportbikes for nearly a decade and have yet to go down, which many of the people on here do/did in there first year. I know one of the biggest harley honkers on here totaled a few bikes on the short time I have known about this site, should we ban those bikes and or rider demographic. I do not think so. I noticed an equally foolish question about baning Harley's earlier and can only hope this is in response to that one, not an actual opinion.
No. Bans are bad. All types. Perhaps it's time for graduated licenses. To be honest, I think if we do begin with graduated licenses it should be across the board. All vehicles. Not specifically one type (motorcycles). Make them drive slow small cars first. Want a bigger car? Prove you can handle it. Want a pickup? Prove you can handle it. Want a larger motorcycle? Prove you can handle it. There actually is a graduated system of sorts in use in the States already. Called a CDL. If you want a tank, get the endorsment. Air brakes, endorsement. Larger truck? Different class of CDL. It works. We live in a world where buttheads and politicians abound. The two will cause something we don't like unless we do something about it. But what?
