Question:

Shoulder press, behind or in front of head?

He guys when i do shoulder press i often do it behind the head and it gives me great results on my upper back. However i heard its bad for your shoulders. Does front shoulder press give you the same results on back muscles

Answer:

the back press definatly targets a different area than the normal press. you will not see the same results as you see are now if you do front presses. it definatly puts more of a strain on your shoulders because you are exerising outside of their natural range. raise both your arms and try to bend them back at the shoulder as much as you can withought help. thats about how far back your shoulders have to sit while you lift the weights on the backpress. i wouldnt do it more often than you do the front press.
Nothing to worry about if you are not feeling any joint pains by what you are doing. If you are feeling any kind of pains during or after the workout on your joints, then your form should be changed. Shoulder press primary targets your deltoids, or shoulders, not your back.
Shoulder press could be bad for you're shoulders if you do a lot of them. If you do the in front not will happen because it's mainly a back workout
Do them with dumbbells instead. It's won't tax your rotator cuffs as much. A shoulder press from the front will still engage those very same muscles so don't worry about it. What you should do for those back muscles is do some heavy trap shrugs.
