I have the mettle hamster wheel and it makes SO much noise! Its because of the mettle rubbing up. Are there any good hamster wheel brands that are quiet and what store can i buy them at? Please answer soon.
I've come to the conclusion that they don't exist. Every one that says silent ends up squeaking after a while. I give up :( And you shouldn't oil the wheel because the hamster can ingest the oil and get sick. But you could try something more safe like put butter on it, which is safe for them to eat.
My hamster cage came with a 'silent wheel' I was so happy that i didnt have to deal with the noise youve been dealing with! But, then i discovered the wheel wasnt so silent=( My hamster now spends her nights in the living room rather than my room. So ask yourself wich sound youd rather live with. The one you currently have, or the loud rattling of plastic.

Only one my my rats uses the wheel, but she uses it so much it makes up for the others not using it. I got her a Wodent Wheel. It's the only wheel approved by the ASPCA. It's pretty silent. All I hear is her feet padding on the surface and some shuffling sounds . Sometimes she gets some litter or poopies in the wheel and they rattle around. Fortunately, it comes apart pretty easily for cleaning ( I soak it in hot soapy dishwater first) When the wheel occasionally gets a little squeaky, I just put a teeeny tiny bit of graphite dust on the contacts. (be careful with this because the tiny particles in large quantities can be irritating to the respiratory system. blow off the excess particles before putting the wheel back in the cage) I have had to attach the frame to the side of the cage with zip ties because she uses it so much that, and she can move it around and then it scrapes on parts of the cage.
