Question:

Sitting in a High Chair...?

My baby is a great little sitter. She sits with no hands and everything and sits in her high chair at home... We've just never tried it at a restaurant. If she can sit on her own and all, does that mean she is ready for the restaurant high chairs? (I know it seems dumb, but they have lower backs than our high chair at home and occassionally when we're holding her she'll arch her back really far and really fast.)

Answer:

Lukas sat from 4 months and was fine in his highchair at home, however when we started solids (around 5 months) and I tried to sit him in a highchair in a restaurant he slouched around. I think if the baby thinks they can lean on something, they will! Unfortunately, most highchairs I've seen out and about don't offer much support and only now (at 6 months) are they remotely usable! Just use your judgement... some may be fine, but don't count on it!
I would wonder the same thing. My baby sits very well in her high chair at home but those lowered back ones....I'm not sure of. I think my baby would still need some upper back support. I think she'd be able to sit for a little while in the restaurant ones but probably not for too long. But if your daughter is sitting really well and not using her hands for support she may be just fine. You could always try it and just see.
I think so. My son has been sitting up in his high chair since he was 7 months...and we tried a high chair at McDonald's in the new year and he was fine. He leaned a little so next time I made sure to bring a thicker blanket for padding. I think in a restaurant there is many new surroundings that they are interested in. My son just sits very still and looks around at all the people and new things.

I know the high chairs you mean and I would be concerned, as generally the straps don't work well at all. You can get portable ones that clip to tables or strap to chairs that are either cloth and very foldable or plastic. I even saw one that was inflatable.
