Question:

Slow windshield wipers -- problem with battery?

Yesterday my car barely started on a cold, cold day. The battery was 4 years old, so I had it replaced. The battery that Halfords initially said would fit my Nissan Micra (2000, 1.3L engine) had the wrong size terminals, so they switched to a different battery. This evening when driving the windshield wipers started slowing down. a lot. The fastest speed wasn't even as fast as the regular speed usually is. The lights were fine (internal and external). I stopped for a while. The car re-started fine, and then the wipers seemed fine, though I only used them a very little bit. What could be the problem?Could it be a battery that's not quite right for the car?

Answer:

yes there is a product called dog bonz (not sure about the spelling) and what it does is change the stock shock height any parts counter should be able to order them. IM not sure of the fit and finnish but if polished stainless steel is one of your choices that looks pretty good. hope it works out.
I doubt the battery is the problem. The power would be evenly distributed so you would've noticed in the lights. It sounds like the wiper motor may have a problem. It could have a short or just be going out. They are relatively inexpensive to but but install is the killer. I did it myself but it was a pain.

I'd take the wiper fuse and relays out from the under the hood fuse box one at a time and clean the leads coming out of the relays with a wire brush or file or sandpaper. Then try the wipers with the engine off see what speed they run at then switch them off start up the car and compare the speeds if you notice the wiper motor turns faster with the engine running then you might have a weak battery or corroded or rusty connections on the start , alternator , battery or engine block ground. If the speed is the same almost and is still slow try to follow the plug going to the wiper motor and cut the black ground wire and connect up another wire to it and to the negative battery post. Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way if the problem still exists I'd have a free charging system check performed on that vehicle asap.
