Question:

Smoke from my Cars exhaust system?

I have a Toyota Camry Vienta (1995 model). Yesterday, I saw water dripping from underneath the car. It was dripping in drops from the exhaust system under the car just where the front bonnet ends. I checked my coolent it is not eating up ccolent (in fact I had my coolent flushed last month). Could someone guide where the problem could be.Many thanks in advance.

Answer:

Hey Jain, from your discription you do not have a problem. Your cars catalytic converter is designed to super heat and convert the exhaust emmisions into harmless water vapors, some of these vapors condense back into liquid form before they exit the pipe, usually evident in cooler weather. An internal coolant leak in the combustion chambers would also cause volumes of white puffy smoke that has a tell tale sweet stale odour, and also liquid residue draining at the tail pipe. But from your description , thats not your problem, you dont have one.good luck
Its most likely just condensation or water. I alwasy though car exhausts were leaking gas when it came out the back of exhaust but Ive read so many articles that explain in depth that all it is is water, so nothign to worry about
It is most likely condensation from the heater control box. All vehicles that have a heater and ac, use a heater control box that houses the heater core and the ac evaporator. On the engine side of the firewall is a weep hole. It is usually just a rubber elbow at the lowest spot of the heater box. This is there to allow condensation to escape from the heater control box as moisture is being removed from the passenger compartment. This is more visible in cold conditions when the defroster is being used. In defrost mode the ac system is used to remove that moisture. Hope this helps. Christopher
