Question:

Tuning my violin by myself?

So I just purchased a violin online (not a very expensive one might I add) and I am trying to tune it myself, using a program called AP TunerIt is a free program you can find online easily, but I'm having a lot of troubleAs I finally (for the lack of a better word) calibrate my A string to the perfect pitch, and move onto the E string, my A gets messed upAs when I play it again, it will be off by a littleSo my problem is that whenever I change one string, the others seem to be affected tooWhat should I do?

Answer:

Violins are not easy to tune because they just have wooden pegs, not 'tuning machines', and also because the bridge moves back and forthYou have to be sure your bridge is 'set' right, it's in the right place and it mates properly with the soundboardOtherwise when you tune strings it pulls the bridge back and forth, so you get one string right and the others all go offIf you're not an expert, then you need to find someone who understands these things to have a look at your violinI'm guessing a cheaper violin might have a problem in this category because the bridge really has tp be carefully mated to the soundboard.
