Question:

spray foam insulation for my apartment walls?

Hi,I read some posts about insulating apartment walls and answers were to put up the foam sheetsI'm doing that for my windows and my front doorWorks excellentHowever, I would like to use Great Stuff, spray insulation for my walls because if there is already insulation, it doesn't work very wellAs far as safety goes, what do I need to know before I start drilling holes in the wall? Both Great Stuff and the sheets of foam will cost meI wish I could get it wholesale! Thanks.

Answer:

AbsolutelyThey're right there with the Infantry guys helping clear roads and bridges of IEDs, building fortifications, buildings, etcI recommend reading Thunder Run or Heroes Among UsRead about the twin brothers who received Silver Stars, Captains Hibner (both Engineer Officers)A classmate of mine and close friend of mine who's an Engineer 2LT just completed Ranger School and he's off to his command his platoon.
Build roads! Ha! You're lucky if you get to do thatMost of it is light infantry stuff mixed with trailblazingIF you go to Iraq expect to know the buffaloCombat engineers see A LOT of combat and face the 1 killer of American servicemenSmall arms? How about a machine gun?
Our Combat Engineer Combany that we had assigned to our Battalion did the same missions that our Infantry Compay, Armor Company, Field Artiller Battery, and Air Defense Artillery Batter and MP Platoon didPlus they had all of there Engineer equiptment and when needed (Not Often) they did engineer missionsPretty much every one who goes to Iraq these days is trained in full spectrom operations, meaning they are all capable of performing basic Infantry / MP jobs.
It would take a very large amount of that spray stuff to do the walls and it expands too much to work for thisThe sheets of foam insulation would be OK, you could cove or paint them so you would not have to put dry Wall over them and you could take it with you when you move outWe are going to have this installed this spring on the outside of the house and use house wrap too then cover all this with sidingI had thought of putting some around my walls in the mean time just to get us through the winter.
