Question:

Stand on a chair?

I'm not native speaker.I saw a movie and there's a line that i couldn't understand.A : I'm gonna be as big as Sinatra.(I think A means he will be a famous star as Frank Sinatra.)B: Only if you stand on a chair.(This is what I couldn't understand. Is there any idiom that i don't know? Why B said like that?)A: Hey, why you gotta say that kind of stuff?(A said weird stuff earlier)Please help me and explain in easy way. Thank you in advance.

Answer:

Sinatra being big referred to his fame. Another way to become bigger is to become taller by standing on a chair. stuff is a vague word, referring to anything. In this context, it means why did you say that to me? (implying that is was a mean thing to say, and why are you being mean?)
Because standing on a chair makes you look taller.
Another possibility is that A was a very short person and B was making a play on words based on the two meanings of big.
You're correct with A I don't understand B and I'm a native speaker. Perhaps something only works if you stand on a chair, quite literally. The second A is basically 'Why have you got to say that kind of stuff?' so 'Why are you saying that?' perhaps it's weird or unusal or mean :)
They were doing a play on the word big. You are right on the first, it meant as famous, popular, rich, powerful as Sinatra. When they say stand on a chair, it means they don't think he will be that big and they were using the normal meaning of the word big to make a joke about how they will never be that big. He would have to stand on a chair to be the same bigness (in this case height) as Sinatra. Meaning he will never be that big. The last bit is asking why they have to say mean things.
