Question:

Sucking sound from air intake?

I have a 2003 Ford F150 with a 4.6l V8. I installed a KN air intake about 18 months ago. About 6 months ago i started noticing a sucking/popping sound coming from my air intake when i am parked or slowing down. It sounds like it is coming out of my air filter. The sound seems to be gradually getting louder and more often. Now my check engine light is coming on. Can anybody help me with this?

Answer:

Find an Autozone, or a mechanic shop that has a OBD-ll code reader, they will be able to give you the diagnostic codes, and will help you be able to fix your problem. Check to make sure all vacuum hoses are plugged in to the intake. Also check your MAP sensors, or MAF sensors to make sure they are plugged in, or that the connection is still in good condition.
yeh its called a silent spinner about ?7 for any pet store
Not really, usually they are quite right when you get it but after they use it a little it starts to get noiser. The Silent Spinner makes a little noise but its probably the best one not real loud.
open air filters are much noisier. check all the rubber connection on the intake tube one must be loose or split. the only other thing i can think of is your emission pump gets its air from the filtered air in the intake tube and its malfunctioning and allowing exhaust air to be pushed back through, less likely though.
clogged air filter may have caused the air flow therefore setting off check engine light because MAF(Mass Air Flow) sensor didn't get right amount of air flow into the engine. Try cleaning your air filter, fuel injectors, and perhaps a new set of spark plugs and fuel pump. check the vacuum hose connection and also check radiator coolant level.
