I once saw a demo where a small piece of aluminum was place on a glass plate and a circular piece of aluminum was rotated at very high rpm was lowered until it was close to the small piece which suddenly was propelled away at high speed, the rotating disc was in the shape of a flat phonograph record.
Perhaps the small piece of aluminum was struck by the circular rotating aluminum.
