Question:

Switching Clarinets(Wooden to Plastic)?

Ive played a plastic Clarinet for three years, but then transitioned into wooden. Now that Ive started marching band it has become harder to march since the wooden is heavier. Wanting to go back to the plastic do you think its a good idea?Ive tried the plastic again and I'm finding it harder to play since I'm so un use to it right now (My first time in a year)I'm in my final days of band camp, but really wanting to change. Should I wait until later to change?

Answer:

Keep them both. Use the plastic for marching and the wooden for concert. If it rains during practice or a competition, it could ruin the wooden clarinet!
It's actually recommended that you use a plastic clarinet for marching band because of the unpredictability of weather. I was told to use plastic for football games and practice. Wooden clarinet should be used for competitions and concert band because it has a better tone. So it's good to have both.
Plastic would be the better choice for marching band, because it won't react to changes in weather, temperature, and humidity. Keep the wood clarinet indoors for concert band.
