Question:

Switching from metal to ceramic braces?

I have metal braces on the top and bottom and i‘m about 7 months into my 19 month plan. Would it be a problem to switch to ceramic braces on the top? And would it cost extra to make the change? Thanks

Answer:

From what I was told by my orthodontist everyone is different. He told me the ceramic ones would take longer. There were three choices of metal to use and he recommended the middle choice for me. I would have had to use them for 2 1/2 years and have three teeth extracted, so I opted out. My teeth are not really that bad and I am older. I would think it would cost extra to change seeing that he would need to remove and replace. I think you really need to discuss with him. Maybe he will give you a break. You are lucky to have only a year left and you will have beautiful teeth. I wish I did mine a long time ago.
yes you just wont get lung cancer or colon cancer
yea its exactly the same
Yeah, it will cost quite a bit extra to change i would imagine. You will have not only the cost of the new brackets, but it is expensive to have your brackets taken off. You pay the price for it when you pay to get them on, but if you have to have it done an extra time, it is usually a couple hundred dollars. Its really not worth it to be honest. The clear ones are clear, but only if you get the clear bands, and those stain easily and end up looking yellow/orange. You have nothing to be embarrassed about with the metal braces, you are bettering your smile!
