Question:

the best way to dispose of clothes with the least amount of environmental impact?

I have clothes that are not in good enough shape for me to donate to charities, I want to dispose of them in the best way available. Most of my clothes are cotton, wool, and some are blends of cotton and polyester/rayon

Answer:

You can use the cotton ones for rags, the wool for scrubbing and the others as packing material for breakables.
In the UK most charities can earn money from recycling clothes that are not fit to resell. Call a charity to see if it is the same in the US. If not, then there could be a good business opportunity!
Animal hair and cotton seem to manage on their own, follow their example.
