Question:

The check engine light came on when the speedometer and odometer stopped working on my nissan quest.?

Funny enough the van runs great, I had brought it from my 76 year old Dad in great condition, it only had 92thousand plus miles on it and it‘s a 1997. I‘ve had it for 2 weeks when the check engine light came on and the speedometer and odometer stopped working. What could be the problem?

Answer:

Sounds like a vehicle speed sensor, it is usually in the transmission. If you also have an ABS light then suspect wheel speed sensor. The only way to know for sure is have the system scanned and trouble codes pulled. One option is to go to Auto Zone and have the codes pulled then head for a large public library and use the Mitchell's manuals IN the reference section to research the code
Could possibly be the electronic control module. Take it to a dealer or shop. They should be able to hook it up to a computer that will help them diagnose what is wrong.
