Question:

Thermal Energy Question?

Hi,how does Space Shuttle columbia relate to thermal energy transfer? Thanks so much!! :)

Answer:

Not a good ideaThe direct heat will probably scorch and burn through the foil and you will have mess to clean up.
Do you have a kettle for boiling water for tea? Put the eggs in the kettle, fill with waterBring to a boilTurn off heat set timer for 12 minutes for medium eggsA bit longer for larger eggs a bit less for smaller eggsThis will also work with electric kettle for boiling water.
hey now!! if you don't have kettle to boil eggs in try this idea: lay eggs on their sides on rack of oven set to 350F and bake them for 20 minutesYou could put foil under them or you could put muffin tin under them, whatever, but not entirely necessarydo from one to 3 dozen at a time I only use eggs that are past the Best By date so they peel better, and the eggs that are baked do peel better even if they are newer than that I have gotten this idea from several different sources, one was Pampered Chef.
Very bad idea! You can ruin your stove doing thatUse a microwave if you don't have a proper panDon't put the foil in the microwave, eitherJust covering my bases.
The big design issue for any space shuttle is re-entryThe shuttle is moving at over 20,000 miles per hour when it hits the atmosphere and air friction heats the vehicleThat is when it is critical for the ceramic tiles to provide insulation from the thermal energy so it does not burn up the rest of the shuttleI have seen a demonstration where they heat a tile so hot it glows, and 1 minute later you can pick it up with your fingers because it insulates so well that it keeps the heat from the inside of the tile from getting to your fingers.
