Question:

Tile grout stain?

I need help with my white tile grout. Nothing I do keeps/gets it clean. Any tips for an easy fix to dirty grout, or does anyone know if it‘s possible to add color to grout after it‘s been set?

Answer:

My Daughter colored my grout lines with crayon I used a acid type grout cleaner got it from the local home center in the tile and grout section. also get a tile grout sealer right after its clean.
Products like Clorox or Oxyclean will work if the stain is caused by an organic material. If it is caused by soil or clay that is basically a mineral without a carbon base, the stain probably is permanent. In my experience when staining a concrete floor next to a tile shower we inadvertantly sprayed stain on the shower floor. The pure white grout turned reddish brown just like the concrete did. We had used an acid based stain. I believe you could easily stain the grout successfully. You may want to try it in a non-conspicous area first.
Aqua Mix sells a product called Grout Colorant. It comes in all the grout colors available. It is painstaking to recolor the grout, but I have done thousands of square feet, and it looks good. Just follow the instructions on the bottle. Home Depot has a few colors, but a flooring store can get all of the colors.
not so complicated-really- yes you CAN color grout. they have tile grout coloring at the tile store or home depot and lowes. The easiest way by far is a little product called tile guard. It looks like white shoe polish in the same kind of bottle and applicator. There is a cleaner and the whitener(with the applicator) honestly I got board with the cleaning part and just used the second step which is the shoe polish like bottle. Be sure to follow the directions for cleaning it up. It is so simple and CHEAP. about $6.00 for a bottle-also found at Home Depot and Lowes. Keep It Simple.
Use straight clorox on a sponge and sponge it over the tile...then let it sit for about an hour before wiping down really good and wash it off with some soapy water to remove the chlorine. Then use a good grout sealer according to the package directions. You can get the sealer at Lowes or Home Depot ...this will help it to not get so dirty too quickly and it should be easier to clean after sealing it. In the case that it is too far gone to get clean with the bleach you can use some white paint and a small brush....I would use something that is rated for mortar painting ...like maybe the waterproof paint for basement walls ....you could also change the color of it this way but you may have to continue to touch it up every 6 months or so if you change the color.
