Question:

Tips for cleaning an LCD monitor?

I have an LCD flatpanel monitor for my computer, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on cleaning it. I have had it for 2 years, and have taken good care of it. However there are a couple annoying fingerprints and little smudges from fingers that have touched it. It does not have glass over it, otherwise I would have used a rag or towel with water a long time ago. I think its a plasma if that makes any difference. Bassically I am unsure with what to clean it with since I fear hurting the raw LCD pixels. Thanks.

Answer:

You can buy monitor cleaning wipes at office supply stores. I got mine at Stables (just around the corner). You can get the 3-M but I got the house brand. They guarantee you'll like it. They're exactly like using those hand wipes that come in a plastic tube and you pull them out of the top, except they are fairly dry by comparison. They do a good job on CRTs too.
Look for the cleaning products and cloths specially made for cleaning LCD and TV screen. '3M' has a range of these products that you can use.
I always use a non-lint rag and make it slightly damp on one side with only water, wipe that on the screen lightly and lightly scrub on some tough spots, then take the other side, the dry side and lightly wipe off any excess water to avoid any possible water marks. always does the trick for me.
You can buy a spray at an office supply store made just for that. I think you can also use rubbing alcohol but not 100% sure on that. I use the store bought stuff and the cheap stuff is just as good and the expensive stuff.
