Ceramic straighteners do less damage to your hair because they heat the hair more evenly, traditional straighteners heat the hair from the outside-in taking it longer to straighten the hair while subjecting it to more damage and loss of moistureI suggest before your flat iron your hair you blow dry your hair with a round brush and straightening balm or creamI like Redken 'align 12' ultra-straight balmThe best way to do this is to create as much tension in the brush and in the strands of hair as possible causing the curl to straighten out so it can be set by the heat of the blow dryerAnother real great product is John Frieda Frizz-ease serum because it repeals humidity and even has sunscreen in itWhat you want to do when using the flat iron is take very small sections of hair, the smaller the sections you do the more faster and more evenly the heat will penetrate your hair creating a more straight lookI like to spray a thermal straightening serum on the hair before flat ironingMy favorite is Pureology Super Smooth Hot Iron ProtectionAfter you've used your straightener turn your blow dryer on the cool setting and use the cool air to set your style and lock the stands in placeWhat it does is it closed the cuticle, while if you left your hair warm the cuticle is still open and will kink back upHope these tips helped! EDIT: GHD is a brand of hair straighteners, I perfer my CHI but to each their own) Some store will let you try out straighteners before you buy.
