Question:

Tire pressure?

If my tires are 51psi max for front and 44psi max in the back and the factory psi on door panel is 44 then what should i inflate the tires too if there all the same size.Next month they will all be 51psi when I get other two replaced.

Answer:

here is the deal the car manufature designes the car and rates it for normal driving conditions as long as your normal this will be ok some times the dealer is wrong ie the ford explorer famos for the tires going bad yes the tires were defective however the problem was made worse bu the low tire presure causing higher heat lower presure causes heat buildup in the tire now to much presure will give you a stiffer ride low profile tires require a higher presure so the tire wont flex around curves or when you hit a chuck hole if you cary extra weight like i do you need extra presure i run 50 psi in the rear and 45 psi in the front to get the ride i need tire presure always increases when its hot so if you max out when cold you may be to much warm so i would stick with manufacture persure unless you alter something like addtng low profile tires thain i would go with manufacture presure ,,or,, tire max presure - 5 psi wichever is the highest
51 psi is high for a tire pressure.Your not going by what is says on the tire are you?The door panel sticker is what should be used if the tires on your car are the same size it came with when they put the sticker on.35 to 40 psi is a much more normal pressure for a tire to run. The pressure listed on the tire is the max pressure you can run in the tire but shouldn't be used for a guide as to how much air pressure to inflate them too.
The sticker on the door of the car is ONLY useful for the tires that came with the car from the factory. The psi on the tire is the only thing you need to worry about. I have had E-rated tires on a truck with a max psi of 65 and kept them at 60 for 50K miles before replacing them.
What kind of car are you driving? You do not want to over-inflate the front and under-inflate the rear. The door panel is and indicator of the maximum pressure. You want to inflate a few psi under that for each tire ,unless you are carrying a lot of weight in the car. If you are alone or only a couple of people in the car, then I would inflate all of them at 42 psi. This will give you a nice even wear on the tires and much smoother ride. Hope this helps
1. There is no recommended inflation pressure written anywhere on the tire, only a safety warning regarding the maximum inflation pressure the tire is rated for. 2. ALWAYS inflate tires to the VEHICLE MANUFACTURERS recommendation which is normally found on the Vehicle Information Tag inside the drivers door frame. 3. Tires with a maximum inflation pressure of 44 psi are usually "Standard Load" sized tires which will achieve their maximum load carrying ability at 35 psi. Tires with a max inflation of 51 psi are almost always "Extra Load" sized tires. These can carry more weight than a standard load tire and at a higher pressure - 41 psi. If your vehicle is supposed to have XL tires front and rear and you only have them on one axle you run the danger of overloading your tires, potentially causing a failure. 4. Year/make/model of vehicle? 44 psi is highly unusual for a factory recommended inflation size. I suspect you may be incorrect about what the spec is.
