Question:

Tire Warranty?

I have a saturn and bought 4 new tires last month and now my front tires are completely bald. Pepboys wont replace my tires because they said my alignment is off. First of all even with a bad alignment can my tires get that bad after 5 weeks and 2nd of all does that void the warranty.

Answer:

whenever you put new tires on you should get a wheel alignment and yes if you have bad front end parts and the car is badly out of alignment it will eat tires real quick.
1. Yes, absolutely a bad alignment can ruin a brand new tire in a matter of weeks - take it right down to the cords. I've seen it happen more than a few times. 2. The tires warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship. Premature wear is a mechanical function, ie: a problem with the vehicle, not with the tire. Your solution is to pay for a proper alignment - which you should have done when the tires were put on - and buy new tires at the same time. Always get the alignment checked when buying new tires.
If you carefully read the terms and conditions of the warranty you'll see that tires prematurely worn out by mechanical conditions such as front end alignment or weak shocks will void the warranty. Yes it's possible for a badly misaligned front end to wear out a set of tires in 5 weeks. When buying a set of new tires I usually have the alignment checked at the place I'm buying them at. Saves trouble down line.
