Question:

To bleach or not to bleach (acrylic yarn)?

I'm just now finishing up a crochet project consisting of a baby hat and blanket, all done up in quot;boy colorsquot; (blue, green and yellow)However, I just found out that the baby is a girl not a boy, as told to me earlierI don't want to re-do the project, so I'm considering placing the articles in a 4:1 water to clorox solution until the color comes off, then washing it with woolite in the laundry in warm water, with a red shirt tossed in to make it look pink (fabric softener would also be used)Any hardcore crocheters/knitters have any advice as to this idea? My yarn is Red Heart Brand yarn, 100% acrylic. Thanks!! :)

Answer:

1 ham 1 lb brown sugar 1/2 cup yellow mustard aluminum foil In a medium size mixing bowl, mix yellow mustard and brown sugar until you have a thickpasteTake all wrappers off of ham and trim away excess fatLine baking pan (I spray with Pam in case some of the brown sugar mixture escapes, clean up is easier) with Aluminum foilPlace ham on foil and spread brown sugar/mustard paste on topFold and seal foilDo not open again until ham is doneBake at 350° for 4 hoursLet set for about 1 hr then carveOne of the best tasting hams you will ever have!
Ham and Bean soup is great1 lb of white beans - Canellini or Great Northern 2 quarts of water 2-3 lbs of ham shanks (preferred to ham hocks because the shanks have more meat), each shank cut into 2 or 3 sections 1 cup of diced onions 1 cup chopped celery 2/3 cup chopped carrots 2 cloves garlic, diced Tabasco sauce Salt and pepper Herbes de Provence Fresh parsley Soak the beans in at least 2 quarts of cold water for about 2 hrsDrain the waterPut the ham shank pieces in a large pot and cover with waterBring to a simmer and simmer for about an hourAdd the chopped vegetables and beansCook for another hour, until the vegetables are soft and the ham meat easily pulls away from the boneAdd several drops of Tabasco to tasteAdd salt and pepper to tasteAdd a pinch of herbes de ProvenceServe with a pinch of chopped fresh parsleyServes 8Per serving: 582 cal.; 45 g pro.; 39 g carb.; 25 g fat (10 sat., 12 monounsat., 3 polyunsat.); 124 mg chol.; 131 mg sod.; 12 g fiber; 5 g sugar; 42 percent calories from fat.
Instead of bleaching how about adding some pink frills insteadBlue, yellow and green can also be used for little girlsJust add pink and or peach like in flowers or add some laceIt would look adorable and save your projectI am concerned that the other colors would run and end up ruining your projects.
My grandmother used to boil it (not too much water) with dried apples, called schnitz, until tender, then take out the ham and drop dumpling dough on the water, and you have schnitz und knepp.
