Question:

Transmission for Volkswagen Jetta VR6?

I was wondering what is the price of a transmission for a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta VR6 GLX??? and are there any things that need to be change if there is a transmission failure? Questions. Price of part in total Overall full price after installment??

Answer:

There is a lot of variation there based on the mileage on the replacement transmission, assuming you source one second hand. Price for the transmission will range from about $500 for a used unit to over $1500 for a new one. Replacing the transmission is pretty labor intensive, and will probably add about $1200 to the bill. If it is a manual transmission, I would recommend changing the clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel if they have some age on them. Even if they were replaced pretty recently, I would at least replace the throwout bearing, as it is an inexpensive part that like to go bad. For an automatic transmission my pricing and replacing the clutch won't apply. While the transmission is separated is a great time to replace the timing chains, guides, and tensioners as well, as the transmission needs to be separated for this work to be done on a VR6.
I assume you mean manual transmission? I believe it is a 17 mm allen just above the left drive flange on most Jettas with the 020 transmission. But the vr6 Jetta may use the 02A transaxle, which has it in front, towards the tail end.
