Question:

Vacuum cleaner went ka-put?

the sound comes on, but it doesn't suck anything up and the thingy underneath (dont know the technical term) doesn't turn. it's an old vacuum( a kerby). what's wrong with it. should i try to get this one fixed or just buy a new one. are there places that fix vacuum cleaners? thanks for any info.

Answer:

Check to see if the drive belt is damaged or broke. That appears to be the problem. Normally just need a Phillips screwdriver.
It sounds like you broke a belt.
try cleaning the brushes under neath it. sometimes hairs and strings get wrapped around them. Check ur bag? u may have clogged suction hose. check yellow pages u might find a repair shop.
Kirby's are very good vaccums and if you go to a Kirby store you can trade in your broken one for a new one and it will only cost a small amount. Then when that one craps out you trade it again. It's really cool actually. Hope this helps! Nick
A Kirby is a good vacuum. It would be worth it to have it serviced, as newer vacuums just are not near as good, especially for as expensive as they are. Yes, there are shops that service and repair vacuums. I don't know where you are, but look in a yellow pages.
