Question:

vegetable gardens in east texas?

thinking of starting a vegetable garden in east texas when i move there in a couple weeks. what kinds of veggies would do well in the heat/sun? should I water every day, twice a day? any info much appreciated!

Answer:

Tomatoes and peppers are a great place to start, not to mention the beginnings of homemade salsa. :) Onions also do well. Just check out what the local Walmart and other home and garden centers have. The won't carry what you can't grow. Yes, water every day, twice if needed.
Based on what is available at the Farmer's Market in Tyler each summer, you can grow just about any of the common summer crops. My wife all ready has her tomatoes , peppers and lettuce in the ground.
