Question:

vermiculite, perlite, pumice, or other amendment?

i was going to mix coconut coir into my potting soil (which is mushroom compost, topsoil, fine bark and pumice). should i add one of the above to help aerate the soil?

Answer:

you could use vermiculite. But i have had the bet luck with moss. You just want her to be able to dig in it. Also try to stay away from coconut fibers.
I personally would never use vermiculite. This stuff can stick to the gecko. If she goes in to shed, she has a higher chance of swallowing vermiculite if it sticks to her skin. Sphagnum moss is great, and so is EcoEarth or Bed-a-Beast. I use EcoEarth for all of my lay boxes (cresties and leos). It stays moist for a longer time than sphagnum moss (according to my experience anyways). It's easier to gently dig through to find eggs. And it doesn't get tracked out of the lay box like the moss sometimes. Sometimes the moss gets tangled up on their feet/legs and gets dragged out.
