hi i am going to put wallboard up in my girlfriends shop...i was going to use 2by 2 timber studding....but some one said you can get alliminium studding...any 1 know anything about this or any links to websites
Light gauge steel studs are used extensively to frame the interiors of office buildings. Heavier gauge studs are used when structural stability is specified. Steel framing is faster, lighter, less expensive and more fire resistant than wood.
as long as the outer walls are well insulated then normal timber studding is perfect to use, aluminum studding is for large warehouse's or outbuildings. theres a link to B & Q's website where they should have some information on line or go into any of there stores where they have instructional leaflets. Every one has a good point But no one told you that steel studs can do a rel mess of your hands if you not use to it . Also you do,nt use a saw to cut it with a good pair of tin snips work fine , also you will need to use B/X cable for your wiring , Go with wood (wood is Good
If this is a business code states that you must use metal studs and 5/8 drywall for a fire stop.Metal studs are held together with a self tapping screw.You can buy a metal cutting blade for your saw.You will also need a self tapping screw to hang the board.
Give the 10 to snowman and get to the local code enforcement office on Monday. With no disrespect meant; this should be a code enforceable job; likely a permit issue and inspection issue as well. The studding is galvanized steel. Steven Wolf
