Question:

Want to lift a 71 Impala about 4 to fit 305/35/24 tires and dont want to spend a lot. What are my options?

I got estimates for fabricated lifts from a local shop for about $1000-$1500. I dont want to pay that kind of money just to lift my car 4, seems high. What are my options?

Answer:

You don't want to spend that kind of money to lift your car 4. I don't think the price is high, I think you are for even bringing it up. If you want to lift something make it a 4 wheel drive truck not your grandfathers hand me down car.
The money to lift the car seems high because there is a lot of work to do in order to not only clear the tires/rims, but also to preserve the steering geometry. If your vehicle is a full framed vehicle, then you could (in theory) get some 4 cab lift blocks and mount them between the body and the frame, but it will make the car handle poorly and look bad. Maybe, instead of spending $2400 on 24 rims and $1000 on 305/35/24 tires, you could spend $1500 getting the car lifted properly, and then put smaller rims on it (like a 20) and after you save some more cash, sell your 20's and buy the 24's.
Cant you go ruin something else instead of an Impala?
