Question:

Wax Paper+Baking+Oven HELP!?

Alright, so I'm 14 years old.and I'm hungry. We bought those Pillsbury Apple Turnovers yesterday, and I decided that I wanted to eat them.Only problem was; A) We ran out of cookie sheets. So, I -being ever so the idiot- thought that I could use wax paper as a substitute, right? WRONG.I set the temperature to 380 F, and let the turnovers sit in there.and then that's when the smoke started poofing out of the oven.I might as well throw in that I'm home alone right now.So, I freak out, press Stop of the oven, turn on the fan, and open up the oven to let it air out.But I'm still hungry, and I haven't had breakfast.and my parents would kind of kill me if they found out I used the oven (They are pretty over protective.)Is there any substitute for cookie sheets?? I was thinking that I could take the turnovers out, replace the smoky wax sheets with new wax sheets, and let it bake for only about 5 minutes, since the turnovers are almost done.Any suggestions?HELPASAP.

Answer:

if you are out of foil than place a pizza try over the dish it will act as a lid.
You can its a silicone based wax paper I would use parchment paper better suited for the jobCheck the packaging for info about if its OK for baking and you should be fine ether way.
I made this mistake years ago and the wax meltedYou are better off using either aluminum foil or parchment paper Good luck!
Waxed paper is not the best in this situationI would use parchment paper if you have itIf you have another pan you can invert over the top of the dish you are baking in that might be betterCovering will retain some moisture but if you have left the skin on the skin will not get that nice crispy texture that is so gosh darned goodIf you want the crispy skin bake uncovered, keep temp the same but check it sooner and if it is getting dry or appears done reduce heat or remove from ovenThere is a bit of carry over cooking that happens after you remove an item from the ovenAbout 10 to 15 degrees.
Any flat surface that is oven ware will do very wellPerhaps there is a 13x9 baking pan? Or a casserole dish? They may be glass or ceramicIf you don't have any dishes like that use some aluminum foilUse some vegetable spray on the surface you chooseYou need to ask your parents how to show you around the kitchen Good luck Sweetie!
