Question:

Way to remove pet odors from carpet?

what is the best product for removing pet smell from the carpet in home? thanks

Answer:

theres a product called OdoBan. In my area it is available at walmart and menards. not sure if you have those where you are but I have found it to be effective. Nothing is going to take the odors out completely, your going to have to work diligently to keep pets from having accidents on the carpet. main reason I no longer have pets. lol.
Replace the carpet. Nothing will ever get all the odor or urine out. It's soaked through to the pad and possibly the concrete under that. You might think about painting a sealant on the concrete after you take up the ruined carpet and pad. Before putting down new carpet. That odor can seep back up from the concrete (or wood) subfloor for years to come. Every time it rains or is damp outside, you very likely will smell it again. Better yet, put down wood laminate or something instead of more carpet.
Simple cleaning will not work.......We have a three year old Soft Coated Wheaten and when she was little had or share of accidents. Here is what we did.....I have a small shop vac that will let me clean liquids. so....I would clean up either type then put fresh water on it and vacuum it....then at any pet store they have spray cleaners with special enzymes that wipe out the odor.....that is important for two reasons..the first is for your own well being to keep your house from stinking and the second...remember dogs have very very sensitive noses....it removes the scent which prevents the dog from going back to the same area and thinking that since there are odors there this must be the spot to pee or poop.. The shop vac is important because urine soaks into the carpet and padding and the vac lets you flush a bunch of it out. I love dogs but when they are being potty trained they are a P I T A.....which means Pain In The A...... Regards
The way to treat your carpets is to invest in a carpet/rug cleaner. Walmart sells 2 products which I have found work great and unlike some pet eliminating products these work right in a carpet cleaning machine... they eliminate pet stains and neutralize pet odors. They are... Odo Ban pet (in the pet section) and Bissell Pet Odor (in the carpet cleaner section) They also have a pleasant scent, and by cleaning the carpets it also picks up any fur that your vacuum may have missed. There are other products that you can buy at pet stores however with those you have to pour the liquid and leave it there to dry on its own .. can take along time to dry and will damage your carpet, padding and wood underneath. The carpet cleaner does a great job and dries rather quickly I use a carpet cleaner weekly/biweekly (have 6 dogs)
Step 1 Always clean up pet messes as quickly and thoroughly as possible. Step 2 Identify the odiferous areas of your carpet. If you're not sure where they are, darken the room and turn on a black-light bulb to highlight any dried accident spots. Step 3 Deep-clean the problem areas using a water-extraction carpet-cleaning machine or a carpet-shampoo machine and cool water only--no chemicals or cleaners. (To rent or buy one of these machines, look under Carpet and Rug Cleaners' Equipment and Supplies or a similar heading in the yellow pages.) Step 4 Sprinkle an enzyme-containing pet-odor-neutralizing powder (available at pet stores or your vet's office) on the affected areas. Pet-odor-neutralizing powders contain live bacteria and enzymes that digest odor-causing protein and bacteria, permanently removing it from the deepest fibers in your carpet. These products also contain a mild cleanser that can help remove discoloration. Alternatively, you can use borax powder or baking soda, but they are less effective in eliminating stubborn odors. Step 5 Let sit for 8 hours. Step 6 Vacuum the treated areas. Let sit for 24 hours. Step 7 If odor remains after you have treated the carpet with an enzyme odor neutralizer, repeat the treatment as needed to eliminate lingering odors. Step 8 Understand that in severe cases where the soiling has occurred for an extended period of time, you may need to replace the carpet padding. Good Luck!
