Question:

Which type of washing machine do you think performs better? Front or Top loaders??

We currently have a front loading machine and havent been to happy with it. We feel like a lot of our clothes come out not smelling much better than they did going in. But many of the consumer reports say they are the only way to go. Should we go with the reviews and get a front loader, or go back the the top loader??Do you have a newer front loading machine? Have you been happy with it?? And last, what brand is it??Thanks in advance for all of your input!!

Answer:

I have a Kenmore front loader, for a long time I hated for the smell of my clean laundry was worse then the dirty laundry. I ran an empty load with just bleach then a white load with bleach and now I open the door as soon as it finishes the wash weather the dryer is through or not. I also leave the door open between loads. Because the front loaders have such a strong seal they never dry out if closed where the top loaders have no seal at all.
we have a front loading Kenmore he, and i have to warn you, if you do alot of laundry, be prepared with alot of time. they take forever for a load to complete. I also think that the clothes are not as clean than with a top loader. I do like the fact that they use less water and less detergent but I think if I had to do it over again I would have gotten a old fashioned top loader.
I was like you until recently, couldn't decide between top or front loader. I ended up getting a front loader haven't looked back. It's a beauty! Washes extremely well doesn't use much water. It is a 7kg, plenty big enough but I would have preferred a faster spin speed than 800rpm I do advise getting a machine that measures the amount of water required for the load. I will never go back to a top loader. All the best!!!
front loads are better, but they can get a terrible smell in them if the door is shut when not in use. Leave the door of your machine open after use to let leftover water dry up, else the drum begins to collect (because of the trapped humidity) mold and mildew that leaves a bad smell even in clean clothes (especially towels). You might try running an empty cycle with CLR, and then make sure you always keep the door open!
Front-loaders are the better machine. They use less water, less power, and they clean your clothes better. Because there is no agitator (that center column in a top-loader) they also don't wear out your clothes as quickly. If you have a problem with a smell in your washer, then chances are, it is not draining as efficiently as it should be, so you have standing water and quite possible mold and/or mildew building up inside. Run a light cycle with no clothes in, and run it without detergent...and a scale and lime remover and allow that to clean out the inside of the basin. Also, check the seal around the door, if it is trapping water, you are getting mildew build up there as well. Now, there are quality top-loaders that do a good job of cleaning. It all depends on your budget. But if you want the best, LG has a unit called the Tromm. It has two steam cycles in addition to being a high-efficiency front-loader. You have never had better smelling laundry than when it is steamed.
