Are you speaking about vinyl or ceramic tile? if it's ceramic go to Home Depot and ask about there floor tile classes. It's best to learn from the experts. They have a full class line up of all tile classes. You'll need various tools and equipment that I just cannot put all of it down here. You'll have to rent some equipment for ceramic tile, others for vinyl, etc. it's best to see them at Home Depot.
Ceramic tile is a lot harder to work with than linoleum or vinyl tiles. A reputable store will assist you and answer all your questions about installation when you've picked the tile you want. Take accurate measurements now.
It depends on the size of the bathroom and the size of tile you are installing. Generally speaking installing tile is realativly easy, the hardest part will be cutting the tile without cracking it. As far as the tools there are not many needed what you will need to do is measure the area you will be doing, and visit your local hardware store where they can help you figure the amount of tile and other items needed to complete the job, most hardware stores will have brochures to help you complete the project.
Get a tile with a PEI rating of 3 or above. (PEI is a strength scale, 1 being wall tiles and 5 being tiles suitable for high traffic comercial use). You'll need a wetsaw, 1/4 x 1/4 x 1/4 trowel, a grout float, sponge, tile spacers, kneepads, grout, mortar, sealer, grout haze remover, and some time. It's really not that hard just time consuming. Grab a how to book at the local home improvement store. If you have any questions you can IM me too...happy to help out.
