the only difference between laptop and desktop is the case, the computers components are the same. So you might find it hard to mount it onto a monitor unless its really thin.
yes it can be used as web cam for aim and for windows live messenger, just try having a video call with someone and if its not set up thats when the computer will tell u how to set it up
The only difference is their mount. Many web cams for laptops might say universal mount that means it can work on just about any monitor. But generally laptop web cams are designed for thin monitors or are built-in to the laptop itself. So before buying a web cam, make sure it will sit on your monitor.
