Question:

welding aluminum with 3 phase welder?

My uncle has an Airco welder, and I need to weld some aluminum with itWhat voltage and flow meter settings should I use with the aluminum wireI am welding a 1/16quot; NPT aluminum bung onto aluminum inter cooler piping.also if there is a better category to put this in please tell me

Answer:

I'll assume your talking about a MIG welder, in which case you'll need a new liner for the aluminum wire your planning to use as the standard wire liners will leave you with a very nasty looking weld that will leak like a stuck pig, then your going to need a new bottle of 100% argon as your standard 25/75% Argon C02 will leave you with the same problem, most people that weld aluminum with a MIG will opt for a spool gun, that way you don't have to keep changing the liner every time you switch from steel to aluminum, a lot of your newer quality machines will already be set up for a spool gun if not then you'll also have to buy the adapter for your particular machine, in the long run it would be cheaper to just find a welding shop and have it TIG welded, and if your talking about a standard ARC welder and aluminum stick, forget it, your wasting your time,
