Well first off, it's Native Americans, not Indians. Unless you are really talking about the Indians in INDIA. And to my knowledge, it was disease that killed the most Native Americans when the Europeans came to North America.
Cast iron refers mostly to grey cast iron, has 2.7 to 3% carbon, 1.8%% silicon and 0.5 tp 0.75% manganese and 95% iron. It has high hardness but, brittle. It has high fluidity when melted. It is mainly used for pulleys engine blocks and wearing rings.
Cast iron is basically an alloy of iron and carbon; with a little silicon. In the commonest form, grey cast iron, the carbon is present as graphite, which give it its grey colour. Cast iron is tough but brittle; and is used in making heavy objects such as engine blocks and pump casings. If it cools very rapidly, the carbon can combine to form ferrite; iron carbide. This is known as white cast iron, and is very hard. Cast iron can be inoculated with special metals such as cerium, which causes the graphite to form nodules; or spheroidal graphite ('SG') iron. Less brittle and more malleable. Or the cast iron can be heat treated to make it malleable. The advantage of cast iron is that it has a lower melting point that pure iron or steel, and so can be cast using smaller furnaces. The pedia reference is quite good for general information
