Question:

What are the pros and cons to spinning your own yarn?

I am very interested in taking some spinning lessons, I am an avid crocheter and I thought I could add to my fiber skills and learn to spin, maybe even dye my own yarn, but I was wondering, is making your own yarn more of a big process to finally getting to crocheting or knitting with it? For most of your projects do you prefer to use the yarn you spin or the yarn you buy? Do you make a lot of things from the yarn your spin? What do you prefer a drop spindle or a spinning wheel? Plus please tell me what you think are the pros and cons to spinning. Thanks so much!

Answer:

There's some how to do videos on youtube, but put simply, need to insert a straw in the bottom so that it goes into the water and attach a bowl to the outside, inhale through the top and enjoy.
first you would have to open a hole on the cap about a good decent size to stick a socket (from a socket wrench) in it w/out making it go through, then open a second hole on the bottom edge of the bottle, fill up with goodies on the socket and inhale through the bottom hole.enjoy
There is always the option of making a gravity water pipeCut off the bottom of your bottleMake a bowl to smoke your TOBACCO out of foil (or use one from a real water pipe.) then attach it to the mouthpiecePush cut side of bottle into water (Either a full sink, tub, or bucket), THEN load your TOBACCO (Otherwise, the air forces your smoking material out and it all falls in the water.) Light the tobacco, SLOWLY pull bottle upWhen bottle fills up with smoke, remove your bowl, place mouth over mouth of bottle, then push bottle back downUp comes the smoke!
this is called a gravity bong and it hits fat so you should try it outfind a bottle of whatever size, and then burn a hole in the bottom of iton the cap find something to make a bowlpeice out ofThen you fill up the water bottel, put whatever it is your smoking in the bowl piece and light it as the water is draining outthen twist the cap off and enjoy! :D
I enjoy knitting and had never ever even considered spinning my own yarn until I got my Great PyreneesA breeder we had talked to mentioned that many people she knows spin their Pyr's hairShe said it was warmer than sheep's wool while being much softerI kind of thought to myself .Okcraaaaazzzzzzy! Since I've got my pup I've changed my idea about itHe sheds a tremendous amountAs well I've thought it would be nice to have a memento to remember him by after he's gone so I've started to learn how to spin on a drop spindle so I can eventually knit an afghan from his hairI've also started to collect hair from my small breed but it's coming along much slower because of his sizeI'll probably need to have a much smaller project for his hairSometimes when I tell people I get the look that I remember giving the breeder who'd once told me about spinning dog hairThe more I learn about spinning the more it amazes meIt's such an art formI'm so excited to pick up my first completed project and think made it completely myselfJust being able to transform clumps of hair into a ball of usable yarnKind of the same way I get satisfaction from taking a ball of yarn and being able to transform it into a pair of mittens or a scarf for my hubby.
