Question:

What caused the frozen stone people of pompeii?

I was watching a documentary about pompeii and the eruption in 79 AD but i fell asleep before it ended. The last thing i remember seeing was what looked like rock covered people?how did this happen? im guessing it was due to the pyroclastic flow? but im not 100% sure.

Answer:

the ash from the volcano like extremely hot dry cement went everywhere when landing on the living it stuck with more coming and burned through skin absorbing the moisture in the blood with capillary action until that body was `dry` the rest kept coming effectively curing the process - this is how i think it may have gone but still looking for the real fact
Brain freeze is the pain sometimes inflicted by devouring something cold like ice cream or a cold beverage, often very quickly. The reaction is (obviously) triggered by the cold ice cream or beverage; coming into contact with the roof of the mouth. It triggers nerves that give the brain the impression of a very cold environment. To heat up the brain again, blood vessels start to swell, which causes the headache-like pain for approximately 30 seconds. The temperature change in the roof of the mouth has to be rather drastic; this is why brain freeze often occurs on warm days. The pain can be relieved by putting the tongue to the roof of the mouth, which logically will heat it up. Hope that helpes :)
What Caused Pompeii
The stone people are actually casts, the bodies were covered with a layer of ash and decayed within the shell that had been formed, leaving only the skeletons behind. Archaeologist Giuseppe Fiorelli realised that if plaster was poured into the mould thus formed you would get an exact cast of the body. I have been to Pompeii and it is amazing to see these figures, not only human but also dogs and other animals. See the first link for the story of the casts and back a page to the second link to find out a lot more about Pompeii. The Youtube link gives you a tour around the body cast collection.
