What causes wipers to skip over the windshield?
The windshield may be either too dry or has crap on it. Try this: 1. constantly squirting washer fluid and see if it goes away. 2. first cleaning the windshield BY HAND real good. 3. flipping over or switching wipers. 4. try next size smaller wipers. Good luck.

I have only seen two reasons for this happening. The first is dirt on the windshield that needs to be removed the old fashion way. Things like dried on bug juice and tree sap. A good no ammonia window cleaning solution and a non abrasive scrub pad will do the job. The other is high cross winds and/or high speed driving. In this case a wind deflector build into the windshield wiper arm may help, but not always. Slowing down works better, high speed is an unneeded risk and high winds that can cause this problem also present challenges that require a lower speed of travel.
